Project description: To provide scholarships (covering education from daycare to university) for Siyakatala orphans, as well as disabled and visually impaired children. Aside from the basic school fees, each scholarship would include school uniforms, text books and school supplies as well as transportation. |
|
Project Justification: The Siyakatala orphanages, WEBA and the Disabled Children's Program rely solely on Ikamva Labantu to fund the education of over 100 disadvantaged children. In South Africa, public education is costly, highly regulated and not easily accessible. In addition to a school fee, expenses such as uniforms, text books, school supplies, transportation costs and lunch are borne by the family. Without a family to pay these costs, it becomes extremely difficult for children to get an education. Compliance with uniform regulations are strictly enforced and offenders are sent home. Often located distant from homes, schools require students to use expensive transportation (public school transportation is not available to most Township community members). |

Project Costs:
$240 covers one child's daycare education for a year $180 covers one student's primary school education for a year $300 covers one student's secondary school education for a year $1,800 covers one student's university education for a year $1,200 covers one student's technical college education for a year |
