The Colorado Hebrew Chorale was organized by its music director, Carol Kozak Ward, in September 1993 to preserve, promote and celebrate Hebrew choral
expression. Since its inception, this highly dedicated volunteer chorus, whose members come from all areas within greater Denver, has literally given voice to the legacy and culture of the Jewish experience through song. Now in its eleventh year, the Colorado Hebrew Chorale retains its commitment to communal service as the core of its raison d'etre.
The Colorado Hebrew Chorale has participated in a wide array of multicultural venues, including First Night Colorado. the Norwest Culturefest, Liberty and
Justice for ALL (an evening dedicated to unifying African-American and Jewish artistry), Sacred Celebrations of the Colorado Interfaith Alliance, and
programs featuring Jewish and Muslim entertainment. Holiday performances at Shalom Park, Rose Hospital, and the Allied Jewish Apartments, together with annual
tributes for Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day) and Yom HaZikaron (Israeli Memorial Day) are mainstays of their ongoing involvement.
The outreach arm of the Colorado Hebrew Chorale has also extended to public schools, synagogues, churches, and college campuses. Similiarly, its Youth Division,
the Yeladim Children's Choir, has also done its own share of bridge-building, with concerts at Denver's Children's Museum and Civic Center Park in honor of
Martin Luther King Day, to name but a few. Other Denver collaborations of the Colorado Hebrew Chorale have included performances with the Colorado Chorale,
the Colorado Mormon Chorale, the choirs of Augustana Lutheran Church, St. Francis Cabrini Church, Christ Congregational Church, the Mostly Strauss Orchestra,
the Musica Sacra Orchestra, the Westminster Symphony, and the Yale University Glee Club.
Distinctive programs are another hallmark of the activities of the Colorado Hebrew Chorale. Events such as a choral Community Sing of Handel's Judas Maccabaeus and a Zimriyah Festival brought together hundreds of performers from throughout the Front Range. The Chorale produced evenings of music with the Israeli films "Out for Love...Be Back Shortly" and "Kazablan"; a lecture-demonstration with Israeli composer Tzvi Avni;and a mini-concert at the Sneak Preview screening of the Holocaust film "Train of Life".Two important milestones of the Chorale's history are its performance in the soundtrack of the PBS documentary "We Were There: Jewish American Liberators of the Nazi Concentration Camps", and its appearance at the 1994 plenary session of the General Assembly of the Council of Jewish Federations, which
featured a keynote address by the late Israeli Prime Minister, Yitzchak Rabin. The Colorado Hebrew Chorale also represented the region in Jerusalem 3000 events as part of its 1996 concert tour of Israel.
The Colorado Hebrew Chorale is an independent, non-profit organization, and welcomes all singers, in all voices. Rehearsals are held on Monday evenings,
7:30-9:30pm at the Hebrew Education Alliance, 3600 South Ivanhoe Street. No previous knowledge of Hebrew is necessary.
